Shipmates,
We've been having real success wearing our inflatable life jackets for public affairs events. Doing so clearly illustrates the ease of wear and attracts many questions. What isn't always easy to explain is how an inflatable life jacket works, the high level of flotation provided and the required maintenance.
To address this issue I designed an inexpensive table-top display for inflatable life jackets. Made of standard 1/2" PVC pipe and fittings this display can be built in 15 minutes, is durable, and won't be damaged when used in less than perfect conditions.
I put together a short video with instructions for this particular design but your imagination is the only limit when it comes to additions or a completely different approach.

AUXAIR Swim Training - Saturday 30APR2011 in Portland
Shipmates,
This weekend looks to be a busy one with a number of training events.
On Saturday, 30APR, from 1000-1300 the AUXAIR program will be conducting the annual AUXAIR swim training. Columbia pool at 7701 North Chautauqua Boulevard in Portland.
If you are in AUXAIR you should be signed up. If you are interested in the program this is a great opportunity to meet the team and discuss participation. Please contact Gary Nepple (FL76) ASAP if you are interested.
Our trainers will be 4 of the rescue swimmers from Air Station Astoria, and they will bring flight suits, boots, and the Shallow Water Egress Trainer. Jerry Ostermiller will be bringing air to refill HEEDS air bottles for those wishing to train with them. There will also be a life raft to enter.
Expect to tread water for two minutes, swim 75 yards, enter the life raft, and take a ride in the SWET (the SWET is not mandatory, but is highly recommended). The swim can be done with life jackets partially inflated and boots are not mandatory.

Flotilla 73 Crew/Coxswain Academy on-the-water day video
Shipmates,
Yesterday, 16 April 2011, was the first towing practice day of this year's Academy. The candidates, cadre and mentors have been working up to these on-the-water days since late January. Over the next few weekends the knowledge gained in the classroom begins to become the skills that are used in actual operations as the candidates prepare for Qualification Examinations.
We've prepared a brief video of yesterday's morning session. If you are a candidate hopefully this will give your friends and family a sense of what you've been doing on all those Tuesday nights and Saturdays.
Presented in HD. If the video does not show above please visit: http://vimeo.com/22499647Subscribe to: Posts ( Atom )
